Polyporus Fr. 1815

Fruiting body appearance superficially resembles a stalked gilled mushroom or a small bolete, but the texture is much firmer; the lower surface of the cap has pores. There are at least 10 species in NZ, but the most common is P. arcularius.

Polypore fungi forming centrally or laterally stalked fruiting bodies on dead wood, causing a white rot.

Taxonomically poorly understood, about 10 species in New Zealand, only those listed below have descriptions or images available from NZFungi.
