Pileus 6-20 mm diam., hemispherical or convex when young becoming depressed or umbilicate at the centre, margin incurved, deep blue, covered by black or concolorous squamules or fibrils, dry, not striate. Lamellae (L 8-15, 1 1-3) adnexed or adnate, sometimes subdecurrent with short tooth, whitish at first, turning pink, gill edge concolorous and not fimbriate. Stipe 20-50 x 1-3 mm, cylindrical, slender, blue, with white weft of mycelium at the base, glabrous, dry, fistulose. Context blue underneath the cuticle. Odor and taste not distinctive or slightly farinaceous only.
Spores 9-11.5 x 6.5-8 µm, 5-6-sided. Basidia 25-30 x 10 µm, 4-spored. Cheilocystidia consisting of fasciculate chains of cylindrical cells, terminal cells clavate or cylindrical (15-75 x 6-10 µm), pigment absent. Pleuro- and caulocystidia absent. Cuticle a cutis of suberect, fasciculate, cylindrical hyphae (4-10 µm diam.), membrane thin-walled, not gelatinized, with grey, plasmatic pigment. Clamp connections absent.
On soil in forests (under Nothofagus spp., Podocarpus spp., Dacrydium cupressinum). New Zealand.
Pileo 6-20 mm lato, hemisphaerico deinde umbilicato, coeruleo, squamis vel fibrillis atris instructo, sicco, haud striato. Lamellis ex adnato adnexis, primo isabellinis postea roseis, acie concolori integraque instructis. Stipite 20-50 x 1-3 mm, cylindraceo, coeruleo, mycelio albo ad basim obtecto, glabro, sicco, fistuloso. Odore saporeque nullo. Sporis 9-11 x 6.5-8 µm, 5-6-angulatis. Basidiis 4-sporigeriis. Cheilocystidiis conspicuis, cellulis terminalibus clavatis (15-75 x 6-10 µm), haud coloratis. Epicute ex hyphis cylindraceis et suberectis cutem formantibus, pigmento griseo plasmaticoque instructis. Septis defibulatis. Ad terram in silvis. Novazelandia.

Pileus 20-50 mm diam., convex or campanulate with distinct umbilicus or at least depression at the centre, margin incurved and striate, dark brown-blue or black-blue, velvety or finely squamulose all over, dry, not hygrophanous. Lamellae (L 12-20, 1-7), emarginate and slightly decurrent with short tooth, greenish-bluish when young, turning pinkish-blue or pinkish-brown, gill edge fimbriate and blue coloured. Stipe 25-55 x 2-4 mm, cylindrical or attenuated upwards, curved, sometimes eccentric, blue or greenish-blue at the apex, bluish-green or bluish-olive towards the base which is often covered with the white weft of mycelium, dry, stuffed or fistulose, glabrous. Context blue, greenish-blue at the base. Chem. reactions: HCl on pileus - lilac, KOH - negative. Odor and taste not distinctive.
Spores 9.5-11 x 6.5-8.5 µm. 5-6-angled. Basidia 32-50 x 10-12 µm, 4-spored. Cheilocystidia 35-80 x 7-18 µm, clavate or cylindrical, thin-walled, with bluish plasmatic pigment, dense clusters forming the sterile zone at the gill edge. Pleuro- and caulocystidia none. Cuticle a trichoderm of suberect or erect, clavate hyphae (terminal cells 35-80  x 15-20 µm), apically rounded membrane thin-walled, not gelatinized, with blue plasmatic pigment. Clamp connections absent.
On soil (under Beilschmidia tawa, Nothofagus spp., Podocarpus spp.) or on rotten wood or debris (of Nothofagus spp. and Dicksonia spp.). New Zealand

This species is characterized by its green-blue stipe (the colour may fade in aged specimens but is still recognisable in the context of the stipe), the blue coloured gill edge and the large spores.

Pileus 12-25 mm diam., convex to umbilicate, central depression distinct, beige or bluish-grey, densely covered with fuligineous or dark blue squamules, especially around the centre, margin strongly striate, hygrophanous, membranous. Lamellae (L 8-12, 1 3-4) emarginate, with red coloured, fimbriate gill edge. Stipe 20-35 x 1-2 mm, cylindrical, blue, with white weft at the base, smooth, fistulose. Odor and taste not distinctive.
Spores 10-12 x 7-8 µm, 5-6-angled. Basidia 24-30 x 9 µm, 4-spored. Cheilocystidia 40-95 x 5-14 µm, clavate, thin-walled membrane, with brown plasmatic pigment. Pleuro- and caulocystidia none. Cuticle a cutis or loose trichoderm of suberect, short, cylindrical hyphae (5-20 µm diam.), terminal cells subclavate, with brown, plasmatic pigment. Clamp connections absent.
On or among litter of tree-fern (Dicksonia spp., Cyathea spp.). New Zealand.
Pileo 12-25 mm lato, e convexo umbilicato, griseocoeruleo vel brunneolo squamulis nigris (coeruleis) obtecto, valde striato, sicco. Lamellis emarginatis, isabellinis dein roseis, acie fimbriata et rubrobrunnea instructis. Stipite 20-35 x 1-2 mm, cylindraceo, coeruleo, mycelio albo ad basim instructo, glabro, sicco, fistuloso. Odore saporeque nullo. Sporis 10-12 x 7-8 µm, 5-6 angulatis. Basidiis 4-sporigeris. Cheilocystidiis clavatis vel cylindraceo-articulatis (40-95 x 5-14 µm), pigmento brunneo plasmatico instructis. Epicute ex hyphis suberectis cutem formantibus, pigmento brunneo plasmatico impletis. Septis defibulatis. Ad detritum Dicksoniae vel Cyatheae. Novazelandia.
