Phomopsis cunninghamii Syd. 1924

Both fungus and host are indigenous to New Zealand. It is found associated with dieback on Carmichaelia. It is of no economic importance.

Phomopsis cunninghamii Syd. 1924

Type: Caulicolous Fungi; Description: Conidiomata stromatic, pycnidial, multilocular, solitary or in groups of 2–3 with confluent walls, immersed, applanate to conical, brown, 0.2–0.4 mm in diameter; on twigs. Conidia oblong to fusiform, straight, 0-septate, 6–8 × 2–3 m, smooth, hyaline.
Distribution: Wellington.; 1st Record: Sydow (1924).
Significance: None.; Host(s): Carmichaelia arborea, C. carmichaeliae.

Pycnidia densiuscule dispersa, saepe bina vel trina aggregata et tunc plus minus confluentia, innata, applanato-conoidea, variae magnitudinis, plerumque 250-400 µ diam., intus subinde projectionibus parietis indistincte loculata, ostiolo crassiusculo poro rotundo perforato erumpentia, pariete ca. 15-25 µ crasso, contextu minute fibroso-celluloso extus plus minus intense olivaceo-brunneo intus dilutiore usque hyalino; sporulae oblongo-fusoideae, utrinque attenuatae, sed obtusae, rectae, rarius leniter inaequilaterae, continuae, hyalinae, 6-8 x 2-21/2 µ; sporophora dense stipata, simplicia, bacillaria, superne plerumque distincte attenuata, 8-12 µ, rarius usque 15 µ longa, 1-1,5 µ lata.
