Mycosphaerella spissa Syd. 1924

It is known only from the type collection; both host [Coprosma robusta] and fungus are endemic.

Type: Foliicolous Fungi; Description: Ascomata perithecial, densely gregarious, subepidermal, depressed globose, black, 70–100 μm in diameter, ostiolate; on lower surfaces of leaves, no leaf spots apparent, but areas occupied by the densely packed ascomata appear grey. Asci saccate, 35–46 × 14–18 μm. Ascospores elongate cylindrical, unequally 1-septate, 25–28 × 3 μm, smooth, hyaline.
Distribution: Wellington.; 1st Record: Sydow (1924).
Significance: None. Known only from the type collection.; Host(s): Coprosma repens.

Maculae propriae nullae, sed folia in hypophyllo ob perithecia dense stipata grisea apparent; perithecia partes foliorum plus minusve magnas haud determinatas occupantia, hypophylla, dense gregaria, sed semper discreta, subepidermalia, globuloso-depressa, atra, 70-100 µ diam., poro rotundo ca. 20-30 µ lato pertuso, parenchymatice e cellulis 5-8 µ diam. fuscis contexta; asci fasciculati, plerumque saccati, sessiles, ad apicem rotundati, crasse tunicati, 35-46 x 14-18 µ, octospori, aparaphysati; sporae 3-4-stichae, elongatae, cylindraceae, plerumque utrinque leniter attenuatae, rectae vel leniter inaequilaterales, medio septatae, non constrictae, hyalinae, 25-28 x 3 µ.
Die Perithezien bedecken dichtgedrängt mehr oder weniger weite unbegrenzte Strecken des Blattes. Infolge der dichten Lagerung der Perithezien erscheinen diese Strecken grau gefärbt.
