Grass related to D. billardieri (R.Br.) Kunth. Culms caespitose, erect to decumbent at base, leafy, 15-30 cm long. Leaf blade erect-spreading 5-10 cm long. somewhat involute to subulate, glabrous, green, 5-9 costate on adaxial side. Leaf sheath 3-10 cm long, cylindrical, uppermost sheath elongated ± turgid, pale green. Ligule 1-3 mm long, subacute, membranous. Panicle 6-12 cm long, sparsely branched, effuse, base included in sheath; branchlets capillary, somewhat scabrid. Pedicells 2-15 mm long, incrassate above, scabrid. Spikelets one-flowered, rachilla produced beyond floret, l1.5 mm long, plumose. Glumes c. 4 mm long, lanceolate, very acute, keeled, keels scabrid. Lemma 2.5 mm long, 5-nerved, middle nerve produced into awn from below the middle of lemma, ovate-lanceolate, sharply 4-dentate, somewhat indurate, scabrid, short hairy on callus. Awn c. 5 mm long, slender, geniculate, scabrid. Palea 2 mm long, oblong, bifid. Stamens 3. Ovary glabrous; styles 2, plumose. Caryopsis free, 2 mm long, oblong to ± fusiform, hard light brown, translucent.

Foliorum laminae erecto-patentes 5-10 cm longae, paulo involutiores vel subulatiores, galbrae, 5-9 costatae in adaxali latere, virides. Vaginae 3-10 cm longae, cylindratae, vaginae summae elongatae, plus minusve turgidae, pallide virides. Ligula subacuta, scariosa, 1-3 mm longa. Panicula 6-12 cm longa, parce ramosa, effuse, paniculae basis in superiore vagina inclusa; ramuli capillares, paulo scabridiores. Pedicelli 2-15 mm longi, supreme incrassati, scabridi. Rachilla praeter flosculum producta, 1.5 mm longa, plumosa. Glumae c. 4 mm longae, lanceolatae, acutissimae, carinatae, carinae scabridae. Lemma 2.5 mm longum, 5-nerve, medio nervo in aristam producto ex inferiore parte lemmatis, ovato-Ianceolatum, acutissimum, quadridentatum, paulo induratius, scabridum; callus brevibus pilis. Arista c. 5 mm longa, gracilis, geniculata, scabrida. Palea 2 mm longa, oblonga, bifida. Stamina 3. Ovarium glabrum; styli 2 plumosi. Caryopsis libera, 2 mm longa, oblong vel ± fusiformis, dura, paelide fusca, translucida.
Grass perennial, densley tufted, 10-20 cm tall. Culms profusely branched, lower branches intravaginal or extravaginal, upper branches intravaginal. Internodes about 10, 1-1.5 cm long. Leaf sheath 2-3 cm long ± compressed, distinctly nerved, smooth, glabrous, scarious margin distinct. Leaf blade 1.5-3 cm long, flat, ± strict, linear, tip acute, white, somewhat incurved; glabrous, ± scabrid on margins at base. Ligule 0.5 mm long, truncate to obtuse membranous, entire. Peduncles 6-12 cm long, glabrous smooth. Panicle 2-4 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, pyramidal; lower branches in whorls of 2, widespreading, minutely scabrid, bearing 3-5 spikelets; pedicels 3-6 mm long. Spikelets 2 mm long, turgid, 2-flowered. Rachilla internodes c. 0.5 mm long above each floret. 1st glume 0.6 mm long, triangular, subacute, 1-nerved, smooth. 2nd glume 0,8 mm long, broad, ovate, retuse, 3-nerved. Lemma 1.4 mm long, ovate, keeled, obtuse to truncate at apex, glabrous, scabrid on keel near apex, 3-nerved, scarious margin narrow. Palea 1.4 mm long, ovate, two keeled, glabrous scabrid on keels above. Caryopsis 1.1 mm long broad-oblong, pointed above and below, free.

Grass 20-40 cm tall, laxly tufted, ± decumbent, with ± distinct to elongate slender rhizomes glabrous. Culms branched at base, branches mostly extravaginal, lower internodes shorter than leaf sheaths, peduncle exceeds leaf blades. Leaf sheath ± compressed, distinctly nerved, smooth. Leaf blade 10-20 em long, 2-3 mm wide when flat, flat or folded, linear, tip acute, smooth on abaxial side, ± scabrid on adaxial side. Ligule 1-1.5 mm long, obtuse, membranous ± entire. Panicle 5-10 cm long slender, nodding rachis and branchlets smooth, branchlets short. Spikelets shortly pedicellate to subsessile, 7-9 mm long, oblong-ovate, 4-6 flowered. Glumes narrow ovate-Ianceolate, acute, 3-nerved, keeled, 4, 5-5 mm long, subequal, ± scabrid on keels above. Lemma 5-6 mm long, broad-lanccolate, strongly acute, keeled, 5-nerved, nerves ± prominent, middle and outer nerves scabrid above, lanate below. Palea narrow, 2-nerved, nerves softly ciliate-dentate.

Culmi ima basi divisi, rami plerumque extravaginales, internodia inferiora vaginis breviora, pedunculus laminis longior. Vagina ± compressa, distincte striata, laevis. Lamina 10-20 cm longa, plana vel plicata, 2-3 mm lata dum plana, linearis, apice acuto, infra glaba, supra ± scabrida. Ligula 1-1.5 mm longa, obtusa, membranacea, ± integra. Panicula 5-10 cm longa, gracilis, rachi nutante, ramulis glabris, brevibus. Spiculae breviter pedicellatae vel subsessiles, 7-9 mm longae, oblong-ovatae, 4--6 florae.
