K(m) 235264, Stevenosn 1047. Basidia with siderophilous granules. Spores length=4.5–5.3µm (µ=4.9, σ=0.20), width=2.4–3.5µm (µ=2.8, σ=0.27), Q=1.5–2.2µm (µ=1.75, σ=0.18), n=28. Stipe smooth. Sub-pellis with inflated elements. Suprapellis an interwoven clamped cutis with occasional gloeoplerous hyphae. . This material agrees with Calocybe carenum, known from NZ in introduced habitats, and this was from the grounds of the Cawthron Institute in Nelson.

Collybia readii Stevenson (29 D) Fig. 23 = Calocybe readii (Stevenson) comb. nov. (Basionym: C. readii Stevenson, Kew Bull. 19: 9, 1964)

Spores elliptical or slightly subamygdaliform, hyaline, neither amyloid nor dextrinoid, smooth, 4-5 X 2-2.5 µ. Cystidia none. Cuticle a cutis consisting of repent, cylindrical, thin-walled, non. gelatinised hyphae, clamp connections present.

Pileus 2-6 cm diam., dull pink, plano-convex, large specimens becoming irregularly lobed, margin exceeding gills, waxy at first, drying paler and becoming matt; flesh white, tough in texture. Gills adnate, occasionally slightly decurrent, creamy, thin, crowded. Stipe 3-6 x 0.5-1 cm, dull pink, regular or grooved or flattened, smooth, hollow, tapering to somewhat bulbous base. Spores 5 x 2-2.5 µm, non-amyloid, hyaline, thin-walled (Fig. 17). Cuticle of woven hyphae interspersed with stellate crystals (examination of dried material).
Rooting in litter, Nelson, 23.4.1956, D. Read in Stevenson (type).
Pileus 2-6 cm diam., obscure puniceus, plano-convexus, in speciminibus magnis demum irregulariter lobatus, margine lamellas excedente, primum cereus, siccitate pallidior et superficie obscura; carne alba, textura tenaci. Lamellae adnatae, interdum leviter decurrentes, cremeae, tenues, confertae. Stipes 3-6 x 0.5-1 cm, obscure puniceus, regularis vel sulcatus vel complanatus, laevis, cavus, basin leviter bulbosam versus attenuatus. Sporae 5 x 2-2.5 µm, haud amyloideae, hyalinae, parietibus tenuibus. Cuticula ex hyphis intertextis cum crystallis stellatis interspersis sistens (e speciminibus exsiccatis).
Typus: D. Read in Stevenson 1047.
