K(m) 235264, Stevenosn 1047. Basidia with siderophilous granules. Spores length=4.5–5.3µm (µ=4.9, σ=0.20), width=2.4–3.5µm (µ=2.8, σ=0.27), Q=1.5–2.2µm (µ=1.75, σ=0.18), n=28. Stipe smooth. Sub-pellis with inflated elements. Suprapellis an interwoven clamped cutis with occasional gloeoplerous hyphae. . This material agrees with Calocybe carenum, known from NZ in introduced habitats, and this was from the grounds of the Cawthron Institute in Nelson.

Pileus 2-6 cm diam., dull pink, plano-convex, large specimens becoming irregularly lobed, margin exceeding gills, waxy at first, drying paler and becoming matt; flesh white, tough in texture. Gills adnate, occasionally slightly decurrent, creamy, thin, crowded. Stipe 3-6 x 0.5-1 cm, dull pink, regular or grooved or flattened, smooth, hollow, tapering to somewhat bulbous base. Spores 5 x 2-2.5 µm, non-amyloid, hyaline, thin-walled (Fig. 17). Cuticle of woven hyphae interspersed with stellate crystals (examination of dried material).
Rooting in litter, Nelson, 23.4.1956, D. Read in Stevenson (type).
Pileus 2-6 cm diam., obscure puniceus, plano-convexus, in speciminibus magnis demum irregulariter lobatus, margine lamellas excedente, primum cereus, siccitate pallidior et superficie obscura; carne alba, textura tenaci. Lamellae adnatae, interdum leviter decurrentes, cremeae, tenues, confertae. Stipes 3-6 x 0.5-1 cm, obscure puniceus, regularis vel sulcatus vel complanatus, laevis, cavus, basin leviter bulbosam versus attenuatus. Sporae 5 x 2-2.5 µm, haud amyloideae, hyalinae, parietibus tenuibus. Cuticula ex hyphis intertextis cum crystallis stellatis interspersis sistens (e speciminibus exsiccatis).
