Mycosphaerella metrosideri F. Stevens & P.A. Young 1925

Type: Foliicolous Fungi; Description: Ascomata perithecial, in groups, immersed becoming erumpent, globose, black, up to 1 mm in diameter; in groups of 4–5 across the central part of distinct, round, leaf spots which are pale in the centre, with a broad, red brown, slightly-raised margin on the upper surfaces of leaves. Asci clavate, 40–55 × 18 μm. Ascospores ellipsoid, 1-septate, 20–25 × 3–6 μm, apex acute, base rounded, smooth, hyaline.

Significance: None.; Host(s): Metrosideros excelsa.

On living leaves of Metrosideros polymorpha. Oahu: Wahiawa, May 31, no. 159; Kahili Valley, June 2, no. 183; Olympus, June 24, no. 716; Hawaii: Kohala, July 2, 1919, Lyon no. 481.
Spots circular, 2-4 mm in diameter, centre white, margin raised, brown to black, surrounded by a brown, discolored area. Perithecia epiphyllous, 45-100 µ, immersed; ostiole distinct. Asci clavate, somethimes irregular and curved, 40-55 µ by 18 µ. Spores hyaline, 1-septate, 20-25 µ by 3-6 µ, tapering towards one end.
