Irenopsis hoheriae Hansf. 1955

Type: Sooty Moulds and Similar Fungi; Description: Subiculum up to 2 mm in diameter, black; on upper surfaces of leaves. Mycelium reticulate, composed of dark brown, septate, curved, 6–7 μm wide hyphae with straight, capitate hyphopodia, 16–20 μm long. Ascomata perithecial, scattered, black, globose, up to 0.2 mm in diameter, verrucose, bearing toward the apex 8–12, simple, erect, straight or flexuous, pale brown setae, up to 110 μm long. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 4-septate, 45–53 × 13–19 μm, dark brown.
Distribution: Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Rangitikei, North Canterbury.; 1st Record: Hansford (1955).
Significance: None.; Host(s): Hoheria sexstylosa.

Plagulae epiphyllae, subtenues, usque ad 2 mm diam., subinde confluentes. Mycelium ex hyphis atrobrunneis, undulatis, 6-7 µ cr. (cellulis plerumque 15-20 µ longis), opposite vel irregulariter ramosis, laxe reticulatis compositum. Hyphopodia capitata alternata, antrorsa, recta, 16-21 µ longa, cellula basali cylindracea, 4-7 µ longa, cellula apicali irregulariter lobata vel angulosa, 10-14 x 10-13 µ. Hyphopodia mucronata opposita vel alternata, ampullacea, curvata, 14-22 x 7-9 µ, collo 3--4 µ, crasso. Setae myceliales nullae. Perithecia dispersa, atra, globosa, verrucosa, usque ad 190 µ, diam., superne setis 8-12, erecto-patentibus, rectis vel leniter flexuosis, simplicibus, obtusis vel acutis, dilute brunneis, continuis, levibus, usque ad 110 x 7-8 µ ornata. Sporae atrobrunneae, ellipsoideae, obtusae, 4-septatae, constrictae, 38-45 x 17-19 x 14-15 µ.
