Habitat

Between Sphagnum (in "pakihi'' -associations) under Nothofagus cliffortioides or on rotten wood in beech forests. New Zealand.

Latin

Differt a typo volva membranacea luteaque et statura minore. Inter Sphagnos vel ad lignum putridum. Nova Zeiandia. Typus (PDD, 27130).

Notes

The variety differs from typical I. luteobulbosa by its yellow and membranous volva and the more slender habit.
Inocybe luteobulbosa fructificates rather late in the fungal season (April to June) and on one occasion was found in early spring (September). In fresh specimens the yellow fibrils (of the veil) at the base the stipe are an excellent character to identify this species. If old and overmature material is collected alone, the yellow pigment is often bleached or washed out; the bulbous base of the stipe then appears whitish in obvious contrast to the otherwise reddish brown upper portion
