Entoloma rubescentipes E. Horak 1973

Holotype (PDD 27040); Isotype (Herb. HK. ZT 69/134): 'Between Xmas Village and Mt. Anglem, Stewart Island, N.Z; leg. Horak, 14.III.1969'.
Pileus 12-20 mm diam., convex becoming campanulate with plane centre, margin not or slightly striate and incurved, beige or light brown, densely velvety, dry, not hygrophanous. Lamellae adnexed and shortly decurrent with a tooth or emarginate, at first whitish turning beige with pink tints, gill edge concolorous and not fimbriate, moderately crowded. Stipe 20-40 x 1.5-2.5 mm, cylindrical, coloured above like pileus, becoming increasingly orange or reddish below, covered by white fibrils next the base, dry, fistulose, solitary. Context beige in pileus, reddish-orange at the base of the stipe. Odor and taste not distinctive.
Spores 8.5-10 x 6.5-7.5 µm, 5-angled. Basidia 32-40 x 10 µm, 4-spored. Cystidia none. Cuticle a cutis of repent or suberect, cylindrical hyphae (8-16 µm diam.), membrane thin-walled, not gelatinized, with brown, plasmatic pigment. Clamp connections absent.
On soil in forests (under Leptospermum scoparium). New Zealand
Pileo 12-20 mm lato, ex convexo campanulato, centro applanato, marginem incurvo, brunneolo, minute velutino, sicco, vix striato. Lamellis emarginatis, ex albido brunneolo-roseis, acie integra instructis. Stipite 20-40 x 1.5-2.5 mm, cylindraceo, ad apicem pileo rubescens, sicco, fistuloso. Caro brunneola in pileo, aurantiaco vel rubro ad basim stipitis. Odore saporeque nullo. Sporis 8.5-10 x 6.5-7.5 µm, 5-angulatis. Basidiis 4-sporigeris. Cystidiis nullis. Epicute ex hyphis repentibus vel suberectis cutem formantibus, pigmento brunneo plasmatico instructis. Septis defibulatis. Ad terram in silvis. Nova-Zealandia.
This species is distinguished by its velvety, obtusely conical pileus and the reddening base of the stipe. It is as yet known only in pure stands of Leptospermum spp. (Myrtaceae)
