Entoloma gelatinosum E. Horak 1973

Holotype (PDD 27028); Isotype (Herb. HK. ZT 68/243): 'Track from Taylorville to Mt. Sewell, Prov. Westcoast, N.Z.; leg. Horak, 1.IV.1968'.
Pileus 30-50 mm diam., convex at first becoming plano-convex or broadly umbonate, brown, pinkish towards the substriate margin, with lilac tints all over, distinctly gelatinous, cuticle cartilaginous, glabrous. Lamellae adnexed, ventricose, densely crowded, whitish at first turning pink, with concolorous gill edge. Context lilac-brownish in pileus, whitish in stipe. Odor and taste not distinctive.
Spores 8-9 x 6.5-7.5 µm, 6-sided. Basidia 45-60 x 11 µm, 4-spored. Cheilo- and pleurocystidia none. Cuticle a palisade consisting of erect, fasciculate, cylindrical hyphae (6-10 µm diam.), terminal cells fusoid or tapering towards the tips, with brownish plasmatic pigment, membrane thin-walled, strongly gelatinized. Clamp connections present.
On soil among litter in forests (under Nothofagus spp., Dacrydium cupressinum, Quintinia, Coprosma, etc.). New Zealand.
Pileo 30-50 mm lato, e convexo late umbonato, brunneo, reflexo lilacino tinctu, gelatinoso, cuticula cartilaginea instructo, glabro, vix striato. Lamellis adnatis, ventricosis, primo albidis dein roseis, acie concolori instructis. Stipite 3-50 x 8-10 mm, cylindraceo, basim versus attenuato, albidulo fibrillis lilacinis instructo, sicco, cavo. Odore saproque nullo. Sporis -9 x 6.5-7.5 µm, 6-angulatis. Basidiis 4-sporigeris. Epicute ex hyphis erectis, gelatinosis, fasiculatis palisadam formantibus, pigmento brunneo et plasmatico instructis. Hyphis fibuligeris. Ad terram in silvis Novazelandia.
The gelatinous pileus, the palisadic structure of the cuticle and the robust habit of the fruit-bodies are distinctive features of E. gelatinosum.
