Chalara scabrida Nag Raj & W.B. Kendr. 1975

Colony effuse, pale brown, caespitose. Vegetative mycelium thinly aggregated; hyphae brown, scabrous, 2.5-4 µ wide. Phialophores usually reduced to phialides, or rarely phialides with a short stalk cell. Phialides subcylindrical, rarely lageniform, golden brown and concolorous, 37-47 [41 ] µ long; venter conic or rarely ellipsoidal, rough-walled, 10-16 [13] x 5-9.5 [6.7] µ; collarette cylindrical, rarely obconical, 22-32 [28] x 3-4 (3.5) µ; transition from venter to collarette gradual; ratio of mean lengths of collarette/venter = 2.2:1. Phialoconidia extruded in short chains; cylindrical, apex rounded, base truncate with distinct marginal frill; 1-septate, hyaline, smooth; 15-19 [17] x 2.5-3 [2.7] µ; mean conidium length/width ratio = 6.4:1.
Known distribution: New Zealand.
Habitat: On dead leaves of Agathis australis.
Colonia effusa, pallide brunnea, caespitosa. Mycelium vegetativum tenuiter aggregatum; hyphae brunneae, scabridae, 2.5-4.5 µ lat. Phialophora vulgo ad phialides redacta, vel raro ex phialidibus et brevi cellula fulcienti composita. Phialides subcylindraceae, raro lageniformes, flavo-brunneae et concolorae, 37-47 [41] µ long.; venter conicus vel raro ellipsoideus, basaliter scabridus, 10-16 [12.8] x 5-9.5 [6.7] µ; collum cylindraceum, raro obconicum, 22=32 [28] x 3-4 [3.3] µ; transitio ex ventre ad collum gradatim; ratio long. colli et ventris = 2.2:1. Phialoconidia in catenas breves extrusa, cylindracea, apice rotundato, base truncata fimbriam marginalem ferente; 1-septata, hyalina, laevia, 15-19 [17] x 2.5-3 [2.7] µ; ratio conidii long./lat. = 6.4:1.
