ETYMOLOGY: The generic name refers to association of the fruitbodies with roots.
Associated with plant roots, mycorrhizal; apothecia discoid, stipitate; ectal excipulum of textura prismatica, with or without short hyphal protrusions on receptacle surface; medullary excipulum of textura intricata; asci inoperculate, 8-spored, cylindric-clavate, J+ in Melzer's reagent; ascospores ellipsoid to elongate-ellipsoid, unicellular; paraphyses filiform.
Genus mycorrhizale. Apotheciis calyciformibus, stipitatis; excipuloectali textura prismatica, excipulo medullari textura intricata; ascis inoperculatis, 8-sporis, oblongo-clavatis, J+; ascosporisellipsoideis, unicellularibus; paraphysibusfiliformibus.
