Shrub to 2 m tall, usually erect. Branchlets uniformly hairy, with hairs varying from relatively short to very long and woolly. Leaf bud sinus small, rounded to square or oblong, often filled with hairs. Leaves lanceolate, oblong, elliptic or linear, subcoriaceous to coriaceous, (15–)30–70(– 87) mm long, (3.5–)7–14(–18) mm wide; upper surface dark to yellow-green; underside of lamina usually covered with long eglandular hairs, rarely glabrous; underside of midrib hairy, with many hairs usually > 0.2 mm long; margins pubescent. Inflorescences (2–)6–13(–20) cm long. Outer surface of calyx lobes hairy. Corolla lobes at least faintly mauve when young, fading to white after anthesis, covered outside with eglandular hairs; corolla tubes (1.9–)2.4–3.9 mm long. Ovaries usually hairy (on any one plant at least some ovaries hairy), and usually with eglandular hairs scattered over entire surface.
