Descriptions
Shrub to 20 cm. tall. Lfy twigs c. 2.5 mm. diam., deeply longitudinally grooved between lf-tips. Lvs densely crowded, erecto-patent, c. 1·5 × 1 mm., deltoid above the broad base, in upper half concave by margins turning upwards from flattened abaxial surface, tip narrow but not acute; marginal cilia short and stiff. Infls c. 5 mm. long, often ∞ and hiding vegetative tip; peduncle > lvs in fr. Fls in 1-3 pairs, sessile. Bracts 1-1·5 mm. long, ± cucullate. Calyx-lobes similar to bracts but narrower. Corolla-tube barely = calyx, lobes rounded, = tube, flat. Capsule c. 2 mm. long, long-ovoid.

Lectotype (designated by Moore, in Allan 1961): Canterbury, New Zealand, Haast 763, 1862, Herb. Hookerianum, K [information from records of received specimens – in the library at K – indicates that this collection is from “River Hopkins forming Lake Ohau”].
Etymology
The epithet tetrasticha is from the botanical term tetrastichous, describing a 4-rowed leaf arrangement.
