The specific epithet lucens (shiny, glossy) refers to the leaf surface.
Type: Limestone quarry hill. N[ea]r Ward Beach, Marl[borough]. On rather moist face of east facing slope, c.800 ft, 30 October 1970, W. R. Sykes 5476/70 (holotype CHR 211994!).
