Marasmius micropilus Reichardt 1866

Stevenson may well have been right in placing this species in Crinipellis, but a final decision cannot be made without type material or new collections from the neighbourhood of the type locality (Auckland).

[stipe horny, brown becoming black, tall, slender, 4.5 " long (10cm), striate, frosty along length; small cap, 4.5 line big (1cm), brown (drying paler), convex, campanulate, expanded, umbonate, submembranaceus, radially grooved, margin acute crenate; Lamellae free, white, unequal, in two rows, spores white, smooth, elliptical mamillate]

Marasmius micropilus Reichardt 1866

The writer has no collections to match the description of this fungus, which is assumed to belong to Crinipellis and to be close to C. procera. A letter from the Naturhistorisches Museum, Vienna, dated 7th March 1962, reported that the type could not be traced. The details published are: - Pileus 10-12 mm diam., brown to pale brown, glabrous, fluted and sulcate with 16-20 grooves. Stipe 10-12 cm x 1-2 mm, blackish brown, covered with sparse short hairs. Spores 12 x 6 µm. Collected at Drury, Auckland, by Hochstetter. The illustrations show hairs on the stipe but none on the pileus. New collections from the type locality should be sought.
