On soil in Nothofagus solandri-forest. New Zealand.
Stevenson 1962: l.c.
The description of the microscopical characters is based on a study of the type. Because of the fragmentary condition of the authentic material the presence of cystidia and the structure of the cuticle could not be demonstrated. Finally it seems that the measurements given for this fungus do not correspond with those to be deduced from the figures (see original diagnosis, Stevenson 1962).
The taxonomic position and the relationships of E. gracile cannot yet be worked out but the known characters suggest the species is near E. haastii Stev.

taxonomic status
Entoloma gracile G.Stev. is not synonymous with Entoloma egonii Courtec. 1986, nom. nov., as stated in error by Index Fungi 6: 803, 1998; Entoloma egonii is a replacement name for the illegitimate later homonym, Entoloma gracile Hesler.
