HABITAT: in foliis vivis Eucalypti nitentis prope Kinleith, Novazelandia; coll. R.M.J. MacKenzie, Feb 1981, NZFR 14 holotypus; PDD 42838 isotypus. In foliis vivis E. cephalocarpae (M. MacKenzie, Rotorua, Feb 1982, NZFRI 101, PDD 42839), E. cypellocarpae (Zandvoort, Rotoehu, Mar 1982, NZFRI 102, PDD 42840), E. dalrympleanae (Zandvoort, Rotoehu, Mar 1982, NZFRI 103, PDD 42841), E. gunni (Zandvoort, Rotoehu, Mar 1982, NZFRI 105, PDD 42842), E. globuli (R.M.J. MacKenzie, Pureora, Jun 1982, NZFRI 104, PDD 42843), E. ovatae (R.M.J. MacKenzie, Kinleith, May 1981, NZFRI 106, PDD 42844), paratypi.
Leaf spots amphigenous, irregularly rounded, usually confluent, at first yellowish, becoming a bright carmine, and finally brown. Pycnidia numerous, discrete or aggregated, amphigenous, subepidermal, globose to subglobose, 65-120 x 60-95 µm, pycnidial walls 7-12 µm thick, cells at surface of textura angularis, brown. Conidiogenous cells arising from cells of the wall, doliform or ampuliform, hyaline to pale brown, simple, up to 5 µm long. Conidia hyaline to pale brown, smooth, elongated cylindrical, base truncate, tapering slightly to an obtuse apex, (0-)1(-2)-septate, not constricted at the septa, flexuous, 30-60 x 3-4 µm.
Maculis amphigenis, irregulariter rotundatis, plerumque confluentibus, primo luteolis, deinde puniceis postremo brunneis. Pycnidiis sparsis vel gregariis, amphigenis, numerosis, subepidermicis, globosis vel subglobosis, 65-120 µm longis x 60-95 µm latis, parietibus brunneis ex textura angulari compositis. Cellulis conidiogenis doliiformibus vel ampulliformibus, simplicibus, hyalinis vel pallide brunneis, usque ad 5 µm longis. Conidiis hyalinis vel pallide brunneis, levibus, cylindraceis vel ad apicem attenuato-obtusis ad basim truncatis, flexuosis, 0-2 septatis frequenter 1-septatis, ad septa non constrictis, 30-60 x 3-4 µm.
The specific epithet refers to the very handsome appearance of the leaf spots.
Two other species of Septoria, S. ceuthosporoides (Cooke) Sacc. and S. mortolensis Penz. et Sacc., have been described from Eucalyptus leaves. The major characters of these [S. ceuthosporoides, S. mortolensis, S. pulcherrima] and of S. pulcherrima are given in Table 1 for the purpose of comparison [not provided here].
