Crucibulum Tul. & C. Tul. 1844

Crucibulum laeve the only species recognised in this genus worldwide, is a bird’s nest fungus with a short cylindrical nest felted on the outside and smooth and shining white internally. The white eggs (peridioles) are attached by a fine elastic cord to the nest base.

The birds nest fungi (Crucibulum, Cyathus and Nidula) are saprobes on fallen wood and litter. Two species in New Zealand. The exotic Cyathus striatus is often found on wood chip mulches.
