Saldivia 2024 puts the varieties into synonymy, but they differ in leaf lamina width and leaf lamina shape. Var. macmahonii on Mt Stokes has leaves 7.0-8.5 mm wide, and the leaf lamina is widest below the leaf apex (very slightly obovate). Var. hadfieldii on the Richmond Range has leaves (3.2-)4.0-5.2(-5.5) mm wide and the leaf lamina is widest at the base with the margins either parallel or slightly tapering for most of the lamina.
