Notes: In this study we found that T. trachosa not only from the type locality (Scotland) but also from New Zealand, with the probability of being distributed in cold temperate locations. Thelonectria trachosa is closely related to species in the T. discophora and T. lucida complexes; however, they have morphological differences, such as the structure of perithecial wall. Thelonectria trachosa also produces microconidia and 1–4-septate macroconidia usually smaller than in the related species. It is also the only species to produce pure white colonies, and to have an extremely slow growth rate at temperatures higher than 20 °C, with no growth at temperatures higher than 25 °C.
Notes. Thelonectria westlandica has a close phylogenetic relationship with species in the T. coronat a and T. veuillotiana complexes; however, it does not display the typical mammiform morphology of the perithecial apex, and has an outer layer of warted cells on the perithecial wall. This species has been collected only in New Zealand. The colony growth in culture is among the slowest in the genus Thelonectria, and together with T. trachosa these species exhibit slow growth at temperatures above 20 °C, however, faster growth at temperatures below 20 °C, suggestive of the prevalent temperatures of the geographical locations where these species are found.
