Dixon (1923, p. 120) stated that the description and figures of Trichostomum Stanilandsii R.Br.bis and Tichostomum kanieriense R.Br.bis were "too general to make it possible to identify them, but do not appear to indicate any characters that would justify their maintenance as species".
Etymology
The epithet kanieriense refers to the type locality (Lake Kanieri [Kaniere]).
