editorial
Ogden (1978) and Webb et al. (1988, p. 548-549) comment that there may be indigenous elements of Calystegia sepium in New Zealand. R. K. Brummitt (pers. comm.) regards C. sepium var. roseata as indigenous. C. sepium var. sepium is absent from New Zealand; the common "weed" previously regarded as C. sepium var. sepium is a hybrid between C. silvatica Griseb. and C. sepium var. roseata (R. K. Brummitt pers. comm.).
