editorial
authority checked: Friedrich Sello, also spelled Sellow (1789-1831) came from a family of royal head gardeners at Potsdam. He collected plants in Brasil, many of them new to science, and introduced them into cultivation in Europe via Berlin. Among these were Salvia splendens, Begonia semperflorens, Petunia axillaris and Cortaderia selloana.
