In 1832, the name Podocarpus ferrugineus was one of 5 names published in a brief section beginning on an unnumbered page below an article by G. Bennett. Whether these names should be attributed to D. Don, who authored the "account of the Lambertian herbarium" [fide TL2], or to G. Bennett who wrote the article on Coniferous trees of New Zealand that finished above the "Botancial Characters of several species of coniferous trees of New Zealand", seems to have resulted in different interpreations of authorship. Some regard the corrected name as Podocarpus ferrugineus D.Don and others regard it as Podocarpus ferrugineus G.Benn. ex D.Don Furthermore, the unnumbered page on which it was published has been interpreted p. 189 (eg Farjon 2017 as "ed. 8°, 2:[189]"), 159 (POWO, and in pencilled numbers in the images online of a copy from Harvard University)
