Holotype (PDD 27087); Isotype (Herb. HK. ZT 67/136): 'Kowai Bush, Mt. Grey, Prov. Canterbury, N.Z.; leg. 'Horak, 25.IX.1967'. - Herb. HK. ZT 68/140: 'Nelson Creek, Lake Ahaura, Ngahere, Prov. Westcoast, N.Z.; leg. Horak, 11.III.1968'.
Pileus 3-8 mm diam., convex later becoming plane, orange fading to argillaceous or beige, hygrophanous, conspicuously striated, margin undulated, glabrous, dry. Lamellae adnate to slightly decurrent, arcuate, whitish to beige, gill edge concolorous. Stipe 10-20 x 1 mm, cylindric, equal, concolorous with pileus or paler, dry, glabrous, fistulose, single. Context light orange, whitish in the stipe. Taste and odor not distinctive. Chemical reactions on Pileus: KOH - negative. Spores 3-5 x 3-4.5 µm, subglobose, smooth, inamyloid. Basidia 24-32 x 5-6 µm, 4-spored. Cystidia absent. Cuticle a cutis consisting of interwoven, cylindric, not gelatinized hyphae (4-7 µm diam.), membranes encrusted with pigment. Clamp connections present.
On soil amongst mosses in Nothofagus forest (N. fusca, N. menziesii, N. cliffortioides). New Zealand.
Pileo 3-8 mm lato, convexo, aurantiaco, pallescente, sicco, striato. Lamellis adnato-subdecurrentibus, pileo concoloribus vel argillaceis. stipite 10-20 x 1 mm, cylindrico, aurantiaco vel pallidiori, sicco, glabro. Sporis 3-5 x 3-4.5 µm, subglobosis, inamyloideis. Cystidiis nullis. Epicute ex hyphis cylindraceis, irregulariter intermixtis cutem formantibus, pigmento incrustatis, fibulatis. Ad terram inter muscos in silvis nothofagineis. Novazelandia.
This delicate fungus may be sought in Omphalina but its characters refer it to Camarophyllus (ser. Microspori). C. delicatus keys out with H. microscporus Smith & Hesler (1942) but differs in its smaller size, other colours and different type of cuticle. H. aurantius Murrill ss. Stevenson (1962) is considered to be the above described taxon.
Holotypus (PDD 27087); 'Kowai Bush, Mt. Grey, N.Z.; leg. Horak, 25.IX. 1967'.
The re-examination of the type material raised doubts about the correct generic identity of this taxon. The macroscopic characters of Camarophyllus delicatus are reminiscent of those reported for C. apricosus, but the two species are well separated both by the shape of the spores and the structure of the pileipellis . Additional fresh material is needed to establish its actual taxonomic position either in Hygrocybe (Fr.) Kummer, in Omphalina Quelet or in Camarophyllopsis Herink (ss. Arnolds, 1986: 1.c.).
