The presence of Globisporangium intermedium in NZ is uncertain. The initial occurrence was recorded by Robertson (1980) on Olearia sp. but based on a personal communication by H.C. Smith. This was subsequently picked up by Pennycook (1989), and Gadgil et al. (2005). However as of November 2022, there are no cultures in ICMP of this species, and no records in GenBank from New Zealand that closely match this species. Vetukuri et al. (2020) [10.1016/j.apsoil.2019.103475] examined New Zealand and Swedish soils under Solanum and only found G. intermedium in Sweden.

Type: Radicicolous Fungi; Description: Colonies on corn meal agar submerged, no aerial mycelium, main hyphae up to 7 μm wide, hyphal swellings abundant and often forming regular, dense chains. Sporangia not produced. Oogonia produced in compatible paired cultures of isolates, terminal or intercalary, globose, 19–22 μm in diameter, smooth. Antheridia diclinous. Oospores 16–20 μm in diameter.
