Pholiota marginata sensu Massee 1899 [1898]
Pileus convex, then expanded, hygrophanous, moist, glabrous, margin striate, honey-colour, becoming pale-tan when dry, about 2.5 cm. across; flesh thin; gills adnate, crowded, about 2 mm. broad, watery-cmnamon; spores 7-8 x 4 µ; stem 3-5 cm long, 2-4 mm thick, equal, or slightly thickened at the base, soft, not scaly, mealy aove the fugacious ring, pale-tan, base darker and surrounded with white down, hollow.
Dannevirke, New Zealand. Australia, Europe, Siberia.
On trunks, heaps of leaves, &c.
Allied to Pholiota mutabilis, but differing in the stem below the ring not being scaly, but only somewhat fibrillose ; commonly smaller; solitary or gregarious, rarely caespitose.
