As discussed in notes by Drury 1974 under Lagenifera strangulata "Cabrera (1966) lists L. petiolata var. β Hook (1853) as a synonym of L. strangulata, but it is not made clear which specimen bears Hooker's name. The diagnosis of var. β given by Hooker is not decisive."
