Galloway (2007) recorded Arthonia glaucomaria (Nyl.) Nyl for New Zealand, regarding Lecidea glacuomaria Nyl (1852) as the basionym. These names, according to Mycobank and Index Fungorum, are not synonymous. For this database name update, the (possibly erroneous) assumption was made that the taxon in New Zealand was in the genus Arthonia, so the current name is Arthonia varians, and this is recorded for New Zealand.
