Small delicate mushrooms, saprobic on wood. A segregate genus from Mycena with undifferentiated cheilocystidia. The one New Zealand species has a radish-like odour.

taxonomic status
Type species is Mycena pura in Mycena section calodontes. The section is phylogenetically distinct from core Mycena. The clade includes M. pelianthina which is the type of Prunulus, which has priority as the correct generic name [JAC]
