Pycnoporus P. Karst. 1881

Readily distinguished from the related genus Trametes by its bright orange bracket-shaped fruiting bodies, the colour similar on both upper and on lower poroid surface

One species present in New Zealand.

Polypore fungi forming bright orange, bracket shaped fungi on dead wood, associated with a white rot. The single New Zealand species, P. coccineus, is common on a wide range of hosts, both native and exotic. Often found in exposed situations.
