The specimens on which the record of this species for NZ are on Agathis. M. peltata was described from Podocarpus. The NZ specimens have distinctive hyphopodia (globose to subclavate end cells about 15 um long, held on paler, cylindric, slightly tapering stem cells about 10 um long) and dense colonies, which do not seem to match the Hansford (1961) description well. Ascospores not seen.
