Cyathus Haller 1768

Cyathus includes bird’s nest fungi resembling Crucibulum, in that the eggs are attached by a fine elastic cord to the nest base, but differing in the conical often flaring shape of the nest. Six species are reported from New Zealand.

The birds nest fungi (Crucibulum, Cyathus and Nidula) are saprobes on fallen wood and litter. The exotic Cyathus striatus is often found on wood chip mulches.
