Sainsbury (1955) stated there was some doubt over the occurrence of Taxithelium in New Zealand. " ...the position of the plant known as T. novae-zealandiae Bartr. & Dix seems rather uncertain. It was published in Botanisker Notiser, 1937, Lund, p. 83, and from the description I am inclined to the opinin that a form of Camptochaete gracilis may be in volved. The original material seems to have disappeared, with the exception of a slide, which I have not seen, in Dixon's Herbarium at the British Museum."
