This name has often been cited as Philodendron bipinnatifidum Schott ex Engl., but that publication, in Gen. Pl. (Endlicher) 238 (1837) had the species name cited after the description of an infrageneric name, Sphincterstigma Schott. In this it is merely repeated the publication by Schott in Meletemata Botanica (1832). The valid publication appears to be in Kunth, Enum. Pl. 3, 51 (1841), so the valid name is Philodendron bipinnatifidum Schott ex Kunth, Enum. Pl. [Kunth] 3(Aroidearum): 51 (1841).
