Vauterin et al. (1995) chose the pathotype strain of X. arboricola pv. juglandis (= X. campestris pv. junglandis) as the type strain of the species without naming the species X. juglandis. The autonym "Xanthomonas arboricola pv. arboricola" was never published, but is a synonym of Xanthomonas arboricola pv. juglandis.
