editorial
POWO accepts Lachenalia mutabilisG.Lodd. ex Schult. & Schult.f., in J.J.Roemer & J.A.Schultes, Syst. Veg., ed. 15 bis 7: 1710 (1832), however TL2 gives 1830 as the publication date for this volume. Other sources cite Sweet as the authority, and one states "published in 1826". However, the only 1826 Sweet publication of Lachenalia mutabilis found, Sweet's Hortus Britannicus vol. 2 (p. 420) simply lists:" [Lachenalia] mutabilis B.F.G. changeable 1825 Swt. br. fl. gar. ic". Taking "ic as "loc. cit." would refer to plate 178, and The British Flower Garden plate 178 is not a Lachenalia, and the description "changeable" surely cannot be regarded as a valid description of a species. An online version of Roemer & Schultes' Systema Vegetabilium ed 15, 7(2), was not found, so this publication could not be verified.
