Alocasia macrorrhizos var. rubra has been variously regarded as a synonym of Alocasia macrorrizhos (Flora of China online, GBIF), of Alocasia indica (POWO), and of Alocasia plumbea (Tropicos, following Grayum, M. H. 2003. Araceae. En: Manual de Plantas de Costa Rica. Vol. II. B.E. Hammel, M.H. Grayum, C. Herrera & N. Zamora (eds.). Monogr. Syst. Bot. Missouri Bot. Gard. 92: 59–200. Alocasia indica has also been regarded as a synonym of Alocasia macrorrhizos (POWO, Tropicos)
