Descriptions
Parapithomyces clitoriae Alcorn 1992
Hypophyllous on leaf spots, effuse, sparse. Hyphae superficial, subhyaline to pale olivaceous, smooth, septate, branched, often constricted at septa, ascending leaf hairs and bearing conidiophores terminally and laterally, 2-4 μm dim. (Fig. 1). Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, simple or occasionally branched, pale to medium brown, sparingly septate, smooth below, roughened in fertile region, 17-58 μm long, 3.5-4.0 μm diam. in median region and 5-7 μm in the apical conidiogenous zone (Fig. 2). Conidiogenous cells polyblastic, sympodial, denticulate, denticles slightly conic, truncate, with slight periclinal thickening near tip and no delimiting septum, 1-2 x 1.5-2 μm. Conidia dark brown, solitary, transversely septate or muriform, commonly constricted at three major transverse septa, clavate, obovoid or broad ellipsoid, roughened, sometimes appendiculate at base, 15-38 x 7.5-22.0 μm; rarely cylindrical up to 45 x 9 μm, 8-septate (Fig. 3). The roughening on conidiogenous cells and conidia is in the form of irregularly shaped warts or scales, on the conidiophores especially appearing like a rupturing outer wall.
Coloniae hypophyllae, effusae, sparsae. Hyphae superficiares, subhyalinae vel pallide olivaceae, septatae, ramosae, laeves, ad septa saepe constricta, pili foliorum ascendens, 2 4 pm diam. Conidiophora macronemata, mononemata, simplica vel raro ramosa, pallide vel medio brunnea, septata, laevia et squarnosa, 17-58 x 3.5-4.0 µm. Cellulae conidiogenae polyblasticae, integratae, terminales, amplificatae usque ad 7 µm diam , squamatae, denticulatae, dentibus plus minusve conicis, truncatis aseptatis 1-2 x 1.5-2 µm. Conidia atrobrunnea, solitaria, clavata, obovoidea vel late ellipsoidea, raro cylindrica, transverse septata vel muriformia, ad tria septa principalia transversa constricta, squamata, ad basim interdum appendiculata, 15-38 (-45) x 7.5-22-0 µm.
