Chiloscyphus banksianus Gott. was described by Gottsche (1857), who included in the synonymy the literature citations for "?Lophocolea polyclada Hook. fil. et Taylor" and "?Chiloscyphus polycladus Mitten." Gottsche (1857) also cited a Raoul collection from the Banks Peninsula and stated "(Herb. Mus. Paris., fol. 29)."Chiloscyphus banksianus Gottsche, then, is illegitimate since it was nomenclaturally superfluous when published (ICBN, Art. 52).Engel, J.J. 2015: Studies on Lophocoleaceae. XXV.
