genus
Crosbya
Crosbya honours Marshall R. Crosby, a long-time curator of bryophytes at the Missouri Botanical Garden, who maintained an interest in the Hookeriales. Vitt (1977) proposed the generic name Crosbya to replace the illegitimate Bellia Broth. (a later homonym of a genus of Apiaceae). The familiar name Bellia, honouring the N.Z. collector William Bell (Larsen 1971), can no longer be applied to this genus.
