editorial
Family placement: here placed in Lembophyllaceae following the Bryophyte Nomenclator website. Wynns, in the protologue says: "In the absence of molecular data, the affinities of M. falcifolium are speculative. In spite of some resemblance to Plagiothecium draytonii (Sull.) E.B.Bartram of Hawaii, I suspect that the nearest relatives of this New Zealand endemic should be sought closer to home, within the moss flora of Southeast Asia. The occurrence of dwarf males (Hedenas & Bisang 2011) could indicate a relationship to Neobarbella Nog. (Lembophyllaceae sensu Quandt et al. 2009).
