Physalospora fusca (=Botryosphaeria fusca) was incorrectly recorded from NZ based on specimens later identified as Sphaeropsis citrigena.
Based on the earlier misidentification, and a synonymy that seems to come from Weiss 1950 (F. Weiss, Index of Plant Diseases in the United States, Part 1. 15 July 1950. Issued by Division of Mycology and Disease Survey, Plant Industry Station, Beltsville), Pennycook et al. (Fungi of NZ Volume 1, 2004) listed this incorrect P. fusca identification as Physalospora abdita. The abdita name has barely been used and which fungus it refers to is anyones guess.
