Calliandra selloi is the accepted name based on the principle of priority under the ICN. The species was originally described as Acacia selloi by Sprengel (1826) and later transferred to Calliandra by Macbride (1919). Calliandra brevipes Bentham (1840) is a later-published junior synonym referring to the same taxon.
