This species is named after the type locality, Hunter Mts., Fiordland.
Holotype. NEW ZEALAND: Fiordland: 1♂ (NZAC), aedeagus dissected and mounted in balsam on a clear plastic card, “New Zealand: FD: Hunter Mts.,N. Mt.Burns 1300m, 10 I 1970 J.I. Townsend, mats 70/6”, “HOLOTYPE Sagola hunterensis Park and Carlton 2013”. Paratypes (n = 5: 2 males; 3 females). NEW ZEALAND: Fiordland: 3♀♀ (NZAC), Hunter Mts, S. Borland, 760m, 14 I 1970, J.I. Townsend, mats 70/106; 1♂ (JTN), Mt. Burns, Hunter Mtns, 10 XII 2005, J. Nunn, in tussock litter; 1♂ (FMNH), Fiordland NP, Borland rd, Borland Saddle vic, 980m, 45 ″44.81'S 167″22.88′E, 10 XII 2005, Nothofagus menziesii forest in ravine, FMHD#2005-090, litter, A. Newton, ANMT site 1171.
