This species is named after the type locality, Hunter Mts., Fiordland.

Holotype. NEW ZEALAND: Fiordland: 1♂ (NZAC), aedeagus dissected and mounted in balsam on a clear plastic card, “New Zealand: FD: Hunter Mts.,N. Mt.Burns 1300m, 10 I 1970 J.I.
