Peritheciis in maculis orbicularibus gregariis atris, parenchymate immersis, in acervulos elongatos phyllachoriformes, epidermide nigrificata velatos, plerumque subparallele aggregatis, sphaeroideis, demum rima longitudinaliter exposita. Ascis cylindraceis, octosporis, sporidiis subfusiformibus, didymis, medio vix constrictis, rectis curvulisve, luteo-hyalinis (0.012-0.014 x 0.003-0.0035 mm.).
Closely allied to Sph. phyllachoroides, Sacc., but forming definite spots.
On culms of Juncus vaginatus. Stewart Island, New Zealand. (Kirk 207.)
[Notes from Kew Type specimen, PRJ 2010] is this Mycosphaerella junciginea (Cooke) Lindau? [Notes from Kew Type specimen, PRJ 2010] Should this now be Mycosphaerella juncigena (Cke) Lindau? - this is how it is filed at K Small, black, gregarious, partly erumpent pseudothecia. Perhaps more than 1 species in the specimen? Have a kind of a Coelomycete look about it.
