Etymology
The epithet is derived from the Latin retrorsus(retrorse, facing backwards), refers to the characteristic retrorse trichomes on the abaxial side of the leaves.

Type: New Zealand: South Island: Fiordland, above Lake Wapiti, Doon River, Campbell Creek, 1370 m ASL, 21 Feb. 2016, R. Hindmarsh-Walls s.n.(holo: WELT SP104687).
